How to Invite External Testers in TestFlight
Updated: October 2026
To invite external testers in TestFlight, create an external group in App Store Connect, add the build, then add testers by email or share a public link. The first build of a version usually has to pass Beta App Review first. The menu names can change, so follow the idea if Apple’s screens look different.
Internal or external testers?
| Internal | External | |
|---|---|---|
| Who | People in your App Store Connect team | Anyone you invite |
| Limit | Up to 100 | Up to 10,000 |
| Beta App Review | Usually not needed | Needed for the first build of a version |
Step 1: Upload and process your build
Upload the build from Xcode and wait until it appears as ready in the TestFlight tab. Answer the export compliance questions if you are asked.
Step 2: Create an external group
In the TestFlight tab, add a new group under External Testing. Give it a clear name, for example “Beta testers” or “RealAppTest”.
Step 3: Add the build to the group
Choose the build, fill in the test information (contact details, what to test and, if needed, a demo account), then submit it for Beta App Review.
Step 4: Add testers
- By email: enter each tester’s email address. They receive an invitation.
- By public link: create a link and share it anywhere. You can set a limit on how many people can join.
Step 5: Testers accept and install
The tester installs the TestFlight app, taps your invitation or link, and installs your build.
Checklist: before you invite
- The build has finished processing
- Test information is complete
- A demo account is included if the app needs a login
- The backend is live
- The build has not expired
- You know how many testers you want and in which group
How to invite RealAppTest
After you choose a plan, add support@realapptest.com as an external tester, or send us your invitation by WhatsApp. We install your build on a real iPhone and test it by hand.
Frequently asked questions
Do external testers need Beta App Review every time?
The first build of a version usually does. Later builds of the same version may not. Check Apple’s current rules.
Can I remove a tester?
Yes. You can remove testers or stop a build at any time.
Should I use a public link?
It is easy for large groups. For a small, controlled test, email invitations are better.
