Common TestFlight Problems and How to Fix Them
Updated: October 2026
Most TestFlight problems come from a few causes: a build that is still processing, missing export compliance answers, an expired build, an iOS version that is too old, or an invitation that was not accepted. Here are the common ones with simple fixes.
1. My build does not appear in TestFlight
Cause: it is still processing, or the upload failed.
Fix: wait a while and refresh. Check your email for a message from Apple about processing problems. If the upload failed, archive and upload again with a new build number.
2. “Missing Compliance”
Cause: Apple needs to know whether your app uses encryption.
Fix: open the build and answer the export compliance questions. You can also set the correct key in your app’s Info.plist so you are not asked every time. Answer honestly and check Apple’s current guidance.
3. Testers cannot install the build
Cause: often the tester’s iPhone runs an older iOS than your app’s minimum version.
Fix: check your deployment target. Ask the tester to update iOS, or lower the target if that makes sense.
4. The invitation is not working
Cause: the tester used a different Apple ID or email, or has not accepted yet.
Fix: ask the tester to open the invitation on their iPhone with the Apple ID that matches the invited email. Resend if needed.
5. External testers cannot see the build
Cause: Beta App Review is not finished, or the build was not added to the external group.
Fix: check the review status and make sure the build is assigned to the group.
6. The build has expired
Cause: TestFlight builds are available for 90 days.
Fix: upload a new build and add it to your groups.
7. The public link says it is not accepting testers
Cause: the tester limit for the link was reached, or the link was closed.
Fix: raise the limit or reopen the link in the group settings.
8. The app opens and closes right away
Cause: a crash on launch. This is a real bug in your build, not a TestFlight problem.
Fix: check crash logs in Xcode and in TestFlight feedback, then test the fix on a real iPhone.
9. Testers say “it doesn’t work” and give no details
Cause: vague feedback.
Fix: write a clear “What to Test” note and ask testers for the screen and steps. Or use a tester who sends a structured report, like RealAppTest.
Checklist: quick TestFlight troubleshooting
- Is the build finished processing?

- Has Beta App Review finished?
- Has the build expired?
- Does the tester’s iOS version meet your minimum?
- Did the tester use the matching Apple ID?
Frequently asked questions
Why is processing slow?
It can vary. If it takes unusually long, check your email and App Store Connect for messages, then try again with a new build number.
Can I reuse the same build number?
No. Each upload needs a new, higher build number for the same version.
